The weather being so warm and calm I couldn't resist
going down Chale, in the hope of a Ray. So arrived at the carpark just
gone 6.30pm Met up with Paul and took the climb down and long trudge
along the shingle.
Lighty and Bill were already fishing, but with
very big tides we had to move further along to find a spot where the
tide wouldn't reach the cliffs.
Was set up by 7.30pm bait was
mackerel, squid and sandeel. Twenty minutes after casting out I had a
take on whole squid and the first fish was in, a strap conger of just
under 3lb.
Half
hour later whilst baiting up one rod I had a good slack line bite on
the other and was convinced it was a ray, instead a huge Pout came in.
Well
the pout continued to come in on a regular basis. I had my Bass rod out
and eventually after a couple of missed runs I connected to a good
fish, which proceeded to almost double the rod then spat the hook, felt a
good fish.
Just gone midnight I had another good run on the bass rod and this time It was landed and went 6lb 13ozs.
Had a few more runs which were missed but eventually I managed this one, probably around 3lb.
As
soon as the tide turned at 2am the bites stopped, no more Bass and even
the pout were few and far between, Paul and I fished on till 5am then
packed up Lighty and Bill had already gone when we got back to where
they had been, so don't know how they done.
All fish were returned.
