After much discussion it was finally decided that Compton Bay was fishable. Having never fished it before decided to arrive just before darkness, to find the route down.
After a slight detour down the chine which was thick mud, we found the way down, a very steep climb but we managed it without mishap.
We were set up by 7pm Flappers with bluey strips and sandeel on clip down rigs on the 2nd rods. Things were quiet, with only the odd bite coming between 8 of us. Mick finally managed to land a fish, a small Pollock. By 11.30pm even the odd bite had stopped so Mick and I decided to move to Yaverland.
After talking to Bill who'd come down via steps further along the beach we decided to go up that way, but in the dark we couldn't find them. So ended up climbing the cliffs which was a mixture of thick wet clay ,mud and rabbit holes.
We finally managed to get to the top to find we were cut off from the van by an electric fence, steep bank covered in thicket and brambles.
We managed to get over the fence without frying our nuts and back to the van.
By 1 am we were at Yaverland set up same rigs and baits.
10 minutes I had a small pout but it was quiet here too.
We fished till 5am then called it a night, I'd managed a couple of pout and a small turbot on whole sandeel, greedy sod took the lot including a 4/0 hook.
So another species added to the list, though the fishing was frankly bloody awful its was good to fish with the other guys again.
