Friday evening high tide was 7pm, I couldn't find anyone who wanted to join me to fish Chale, like hedgehogs I think their all hibernating LOL, so decided to fish the west Wight to get out of the cold ENE wind.
So by 7pm I was set up at Totland bay one rod with a 2 hook flapper and worm, the other whole squid.
By 11pm all I'd had was one little rattle and it was getting bloody cold sitting watching motionless rods. So time for a move 20 minutes later I was at a deserted Fort Victoria, the wind was stronger here and a lot colder.
Well I managed to find a little shelter from the wind behind a wall, same baits and tactics as before, but by 1am I'd had one rockling and 1cwt of weed. So decided to give the pier a go, Mad I know, standing on the end of a pier in the freezing Strong wind, but a feint heart never won a fair maiden.
I was soon set up and surprisingly I had the pier all to myself, can't understand why.
But the bites started almost immediately and I was soon landing Pout and more rockling on the flapper rod, still had the whole squid out but apart from a big whelk had no takers.
Fished on till 5am but having run out of coffee the cold was getting to me so called it a night. So despite the freezing wind I managed plenty of fish and it was an enjoyable night. As for the title the wife thinks I'm Mad!, if so it helps when fishing in these conditions, me I think I'm just keen.
