Comp report

With rumours of some nice Rays showing at Chale friday evening we decided to give it a go, after picking Mick and Nick up we were set up on the beach just gone 7pm, lighty was already there.
Conditions looked good the sea was nicely coloured with a good chop to it and there was no moon, so we were confident of a good night.

Started off using Blueys and mackerel in the search for a Bass and then switching to sandeel at distance for the Rays after dark.
Well by 4.30am we'd had nothing only the odd little rattle from Pout, with Nick the only one catching on a scratching rig with small baits he managed 3 small pout and a small turbot at dawn.

Saturday

Change of venue and species was called for so by 7.30pm Mick and I were at Brambles bay In search of Sole and smuts, 8pm we were joined by lighty.
This venue always throws up sole with Smuts to crab and plenty of schoolies with the occasional better fish, again another dark night so confidence again was high.

Worm baits went out but unusally no sign of the hordes of wrasse.
Dusk arrived and Mick finally gets a better bite and in came a double shot of Black Bream the largest going 13oz.

Well at least there was something about, we tried all types of baits but the bites again were few and far between, finally again mick had a tap on his crab although it didn't fight well the first target species came in a small common smut of 4lb 14oz.

Well again we fished on till gone 4am and dawn, Mick managed another 2 Bream and a couple of pout, I had a doggie and a pout to save the blank and unfortunately Lighty had his 2nd night on the trot without even a bite.

Frankly we're at a loss, conditions and venues were perfect for fishing but the fish just wern't there.
Oh well there's always next time.
