Chale/Alum Bay,

finally the winds had veered to westerlies and had been all week, so hopes were high that the fishing would finally improve.
After checking the weather on 4 sites all saying a dry night, I picked Nick up at 6.30pm Friday. We got to whale Chine carpark and walked to the cliff top to see what the surf was like.

Didn't look to bad so we took the long climb down and was set up just gone 7pm, within the hour the sea had turned really rough with waves breaking a good 6 foot and even more worrying was that we were running out of beach with 150 foot cliffs behind us. so we opted to move for safety.

Just gone 9pm and we were set up again at Alum Bay, the sea was a lot calmer and plenty of beach left.
After an hour I had a cracking bite on squid, struck and was into a good fish, the rod bent well over as the fish shook its head then slack line and it was gone.

A while later I get another rattle on squid and in comes the 1st fish of the night, A 3 bearded (shore) rockling a new species for the year and a big one at that.

Well despite all the weather sites saying it was to be dry the rain started and got heavier, we stuck it out, despite some cracking bites for me I just couldn't connect.
Finally around midnight I started to get a slow nodding on my half a bluey I had out on a pennel, it kept taking small amounts of line, picking the rod up I called to Nick thatI thought an Eel was interested in my bait, after 10 minutes a better pull and I struck reeled in to find a doggie, how dissappointing.
A while later Nick had the exact same thing, sure it was an eel but turned out to be a doggie.
Well we stuck it out till 3am, but with it still raining and no bites we called it a reluctant night.
