Friday evening and with calm conditions and no rain, for once, it was time for a go at Chale to see if the Rays were in yet. Picked Nick up at 6.30pm and arrived at the carpark and then it was the steep climb down the cliff.
Safely down we walked along the beach to find 3 mates already set up in our spot so we settled down along side them.
We had sandeel, squid, Mackerel and worm for bait, one rod with a clip down rig and sandeel would go out at distance for the ray and the other would swop and change rigs and baits looking for anything else that was about.
Just as dusk was falling Nick was 1st in with a nice little Turbot.
That was a good start.
Well we tried several different rigs and all combinations of baits but nothing was feeding apart from the odd jumbo Pout.
Finally one of our mates next to us landed a small eyed ray, which boosted our hopes, the rays were about, albeit in small numbers.
Well we fished on till nearly 5pm and with dawn fast approaching called it a night, I'd managed a few big doggies at range on sandeel and a load of jumbo Pout but no rays this time. Still if the weather holds we'll be back next friday. The Rays will turn up.
Despite the slow fishing it was a cracking night, great venue to fish, and with good company what more could you ask.
