Cowes 12th February

Well with my usual spots not producing yet I decided on a change, so Friday 12th I headed off to Cowes, to fish a reasonably deep water mark around Egypt lighthouse, arrived just gone 6pm.
This is a snaggy venue but thought it would give me the best chance of a doggie, Pout, and can produce good Bass and the odd Cod. I made rigs using a 3 way swivel tied to the leader  with 15lb line off the bottom to a plain lead and 15lb hook snood on the other eye, thought this would lessen the chance of getting snagged.

And if I did get snagged I could go for the break without losng any fish. Bait was Squid, Mackerel and sandeel. I sat there till 10pm without as much as a nibble, the tide started to run harder and it was gettng difficult to hold bottom with 6oz plain leads, then the mrs phones to say good night, and whilst talking to her the rod hangs over, a good bite Dropping the phone I strike fish on,well for a while at least. Sods law, you can watch your rods for an hour without anything then as soon as your backs turned you get a good bite.
By now the tide was getting too strong so I decided on a move further along to Gurnard, shallower venue but little current and a good spot for Bass. Well gave it to 1am, with the north-easterlie getting stronger and colder I called it a night. Despite lack of fish a good night out and a week closer to the Ray fishing at Chale.
