I wasn't sure whether i was going to fish this weekend, with the fishing being lousy so far this year, and a clear night with a bright moon, finding fish would be difficult. Due to the lousy weather during the week I'd been unable to dig any worm and all I had in the freezer was half a box of squid and 2 mackerel.
Well finished work early, cooked dinner and I was out the door by 3.30pm, on the beach to dig worms by 4pm, managed enough Rag and lug worm for a session, and by just gone 6pm the baits were out in the water.Well the usually tactics would be employed, 2 hook flapper with worm and a pennel rig with mackerel or whole Squid.
2 hours passed at the first mark without as much as a nibble, and that moon was bloody bright.
So I decided on a move a short distance, a shallow mark that usually produces.
I was set up again just gone 8pm, poured myself a coffee, rolled a cigarette looked up to see the rod pull round nicely, struck, and finally a fish on and this one I could feel shaking its head.
Slipped it up the beach, target species landed, a nice Bass of 1lb 8ozs, it was then I realised my camera phone was still on charge at home, Bugger, no photos.
Still this looked promising, a fish straight away, could be a good night but alas it wasn't to be. Just gone 10pm and no other bites, I'd even set the other rod up with a flapper and worm, Then finally the 2nd bite of the night and in came another Bass, going 1lb 4ozs. Well I stuck it out till midnight, tired, cold and with the tide ebbing fast on this shallow beach I didn't fancy chasing it down, so called it a night.
But at least there's signs of the Bass showing at last, 2 fish caught and returned, not big but for the time of year and conditions still a good catch.
Looking forward to getting back down there without the moon.
