During the week I'd given much thought about where I was going to try the weekend, by friday I'dcome up with a plan, a 3 venue attack, 1st would be The Duver, which is at the mouth of Bembrdge Harbour, there's normally plenty of small stuff to keep the rods nodding and its a good venue for Flounder. 2nd would be the toll rd for Bass and Flounder then finally Seaview for Bass.
Friday finally arrives and after digging plenty of king rag the day before I arrived at the Duver by 6pm, one rod would be using a size 4/0 pulley with squid or sandeel in search of the better Bass, while the other was a size 1 two hook flapper, with Rag and slipper combinations. The sea was nice and flat despite a brisk wind, which was bloody cold. After 3 hours I hadn't even had a nibble so time for a move and 2nd venue, the toll rd, arrived to find a big surf running due to it being a shallow venue and a brisk wind, and copious amounts of weed, so on to the 3rd venue, Seaview arrived to find there was no beach left, the tide was so high, but managed to find a space on a slipway, after an hour and half here I'd run out of room to cast, so a quick think and decided on a move back to my local beach. set up by the paddling pool same rigs and baits.
After 20 minutes I had my 1st nibble of the night which came to nothing, rebaited and 10minutes a better take, this was so good I actually got out of my warm van, it went again and I struck and in came a Bass of about 12ozs. Well within half hour the tide was running again and was joind by the weed. So another move to fish inside the Harbour I gave it till 3am but didn't even have a nibble.
So after 9 hours 2 bites and 1 small fish I called it a night. Roll on the spring.
