Friday evening after picking Nick up and meeting Lighty at Chale car park we took the climb down the cliffs. We decided to try the other end of the bay from our usual spot, as this had a greater chance of producing a conger, our target for the night, and should also produce the Bass, the weather was perfect for eels, no wind and the sea was like a mill pond.
Big baits were the order of the night, Cuttle, whole Squid and large Mackeral baits.
Running ledger rigs sent out and we sat back to wait.
Almost form the off the pout were hitting everything even when we filleted them and sent them back out.
Soon after darkness Lighty did mange a conger albeit only a pound in weight.
The Pout now were becoming a plague, we just couldn't get past them. Though eventually lighty managed a brief spell to land this cracking Turbot of 3lb 1oz
The Pout continued to hit everthing until low water when finally they disappeared, now was the time for an eel, but alas no takers.
The tide started to flood again and the pout were back, but not in so many numbers. By 5am we'd had enough and started to pack up when Nick called over, he'd finally caught something else, and landed a nice Bass of 3lb 10oz.
Well we called it a night after that.
Weather permitting I will be out again next weekend for those eels, with 2 venues in mind.
