Totland bay is an easily accesible stretch of sea wall.
Low tide reveals rocky outcrops and patches of sand and clay. The water is not deep but there is a huge variety of fish which are regularly caught here, sole, plaice, dabs, bass, pollack, wrasse and mullet are the species to target.
The stretch of beach from the pier westwards to the old lifeboat station is generally the most productive area for plaice, sole and dabs.Bass may be caught anywhere in the bay but the areas around the lifeboat station and the rocky reef to the east of the pier are favoured marks.
Ragworm is by far the most popular and effective all round bait here and accounts for the majority of the sole, plaice and small school Bass. For Dabs try a small sliver of squid or a fillet of sandeel.Numerous small wrasse can be caught over the rocks using crab or worm.If its a good sized Bass you're after try crab,a large chunk of Mackerel, cuttle or a livebait.
Heavy tackle is unnecessary here as there is not much lateral tide unless you fish the eastern extremity of the bay towards Colwell and here the tide rip can be fierce.
